      eACLS™ is an online case-based approach to advanced cardiac life (ACLS) support training. eACLS™ is a highly interactive, online program. It includes more than 200 live-action video clips and 500 photos, illustrations, and animations to reinforce your ability to assess and manage life-threatening cardiac and respiratory emergencies. Successful completion of the online portion and a skills test will earn the student an eACLS™ certificate which is valid for 2 years.

    • Who is the target audience for eACLS™?

      All hospital or pre-hospital professionals who are required to be credentialed in advanced cardiac life support.

    • Are there didactic and skills components to the eACLS™ course?

      eACLS™ has been developed to enable Advanced Life Support (ALS) providers to renew their Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training easily and economically through the completion of interactive, cognitive activities that satisfy the didactic requirements of ACLS training and then proceed to complete their required skills. The content covered in the eACLS™ course is consistent with the 2005 International Consensus Guidelines for CPR and ECC, and covered in other nationally recognized ACLS courses.

      In order to receive an official eACLS™ course completion card, users must attend and complete the required skills provided by a local institution or agency acting as an eACLS™ Training Center. The 4 skills involve:

      1. CPR and AED (exempt if you possess proof of current CPR/AED training)
      2. Airway and Ventilation Management
      3. ECG Arrhythmia Recognition and Treatment Modalities
      4. MegaCode

      Note - Training Centers can combine the skills above into one Master megacode station, or test these as individual stations. Students can be easily integrated into existing ACLS skills stations offered through other organizations.

    • How long is an eACLS™ course access code good for?

      A course user has 1 year to complete the eACLS™ course.

    • How long will it take someone to complete the eACLS™ course?

      It will take approximately 25 minutes to complete each case study, and another 40 minutes to complete the final written exam.

    • Are there any ancillary materials that could be used in conjunction with eACLS™?

      There are no mandatory ancillary guides for the online eACLS™ course.

    • Which states have approved eACLS™?

      eACLS™ has been approved by CECBEMS. Also, NREMT will accept continuing education and verification of ACLS in programs that are CECBEMS or state EMS office approved. The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) has contacted all 50 states regarding state approval for the eACLS™ course. Most states have indicated that CECBEMS approval is sufficient.

    • Can I obtain Continuing Education Credits for the eACLS™ course?

      Yes. Following successful completion of the cognitive portion of the eACLS™ course, continuing education credits are immediately awarded as follows:

      • 6 Advanced Continuing Education Hours (CEH) provided by the Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency Medical Services (CECBEMS).
      • 6 hours of AMA Category 1 CME credit and 6 hours of ACEP Category I CME credit for physicians.
      • 6 hours of AAPA Category 1 CME credit for physician assistants.
      • 6.8 clinical CEH for nurses provided by the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA)

    • Who developed the content for the eACLS™ course?

      eACLS™ has been developed by Jones and Bartlett Publishers and the medical content is provided by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP). It is designed to meet the international training guidelines for advanced cardiac life support (ACLS). ACEP is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

    • Who can teach the eACLS™ course?

      The didactic portion of the course does not require an instructor. All of the content normally covered through instructor lectures in a traditional ACLS refresher course is covered via the eACLS™ interactive online program. The only "instructors" needed would be for the eACLS™ skills stations. These instructors are selected by the agency or site eACLS™ Course Coordinator, and must have adequate knowledge and be capable of evaluating and verifying course user skills competence.

    • What are the eACLS™ Course Coordinator Qualifications?

      Becoming an eACLS™ Course Coordinator is not difficult. An individual must meet the following prerequisites/qualifications:

      • Be a physician (MD or DO), registered nurse, nurse practitioner, advanced practice nurse, physician assistant, or paramedic with a strong background in advanced cardiac life support, and a responsibility to coordinate ACLS education/training at your institution.
      • Complete the eACLS™ online Training Center Agreement, which requires the identification of the person who will serve conducting the Course Coordinator.
      • Have documented experience in conducting/coordinating advanced cardiac life support training for hospital and pre-hospital personnel.
      • Have an understanding and a working knowledge of the eACLS™ course materials and policies and procedures.
      • Complete any required future updates for eACLS™.

      A Course Coordinator's status is valid for one year. To renew this status, the individual must be involved with one course during this period.     • Who can administer the eACLS™ course?

      eACLS™ Course Coordinators administer this program. These individuals include those who administer ACLS and other continuing education training at hospitals, colleges and universities, and EMS/Fire training centers. All ACLS Coordinators or Medical Directors with national organizations such as AHA or ASHI will be automatically grandfathered into this program. A Training Center Agreement must be signed. If you are interested in becoming an eACLS™ Course Coordinator or Training Center or wish to learn more about the Administrative Guidelines for this program call National Paramedic Institute at (800)671-9411.

    • What is the role of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) in regard to eACLS™?

      ACEP has provided the medical direction for this program and is promoting this program among its physician members and its website, and assisting with securing the necessary approvals for the course.

    • How long are eACLS™ course records maintained?

      User records are maintained by National Paramedic institute for 10 years.

    • How long is the eACLS™ Course Completion Card good for?

      The eACLS™ Course Completion Card is valid for a period of two years.

    • What is the passing score and format of the final written exam for the eACLS™ course?

      The final written exam is comprised of 50 multiple choice questions (5 per case study). The questions are based on the objectives of the case studies and include ECGs when appropriate. Each question is worth 2 points. Once the exam is completed, it is graded instantly, and any wrong answers are remediated. Users must score at least 84% to pass the course. If a user fails the first exam, he or she is given a second opportunity to pass a different exam after an opportunity for further remediation through the eACLS™ "Resources" section. If the user fails the second exam, he or she will have to repeat the course.

    • Is a Medical Director needed for eACLS™?

    • How many chances do I get to pass the eACLS class?

      You will be given three attempts to pass the post tests, after which time you will be required to purchase another subscription to the course.

      The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.       Students who complete the online courses receive an acknowledgement upon successful completion of the knowledge components and the written exam, but they do not receive a Course Completion Card until they have completed the skills portion of the course with an instructor. This is done with an Educational Center or Institute Instructor who is able to issue the official wallet-sized Course Completion Card.

    • Does a student have to purchase a textbook whenever he/she takes an online course?

      No, students are not required to purchase a textbook when taking an online course.

    • Is it necessary to achieve an official Course Completion Card?

      There are no requirements to have an official Course Completion Card unless a job requires it. Some people simply want to get the information without having to go through skills training and examinations.

    • How long is my training valid?

      CPR Course Completion Cards are valid for two years.

    • I keep getting kicked out of the system or I keep getting the same error message. What do I need to do?

      Most of the time, this issue is due to caching of your browser.

      • Please clear your Internet cache (Cookies and Temporary Internet Files) by going through the "Tools" and "Internet Options" in the upper left corner of your browser.

    • I can hear the audio but get no video or a mix of colors. How do I fix this?

      This is typically caused by not having the correct codecs installed. You can download them for free here.

    • I can't finish Dr. Bledsoe Corner courses, it restarts after the test. How do I complete these courses?

      You will need to put our sites into your browser's trusted sites list. Below is a walk-through of how to do this.
